Activity 1: Creating a Blog

Blogging is going to be the backbone of the ICT component for our inaugural orientation programme.

Objective of Activity

  • To create a blog and the various ways of 'blogging'
  • Experience the use of blogging during the Orientation Programme, from the students' perspective

Preparation...

Those who do not have any blog account with Blogger

  • Those who already have a blog account with Blogger
  • Do remember the login username and password? If not, please reset and ensure it works...

The Task

  • Create a blog and name it. "2010 Journey begins now..."
  • There should be two posts to this blog

Part (a)

  • In one of the post, insert an image that is representative of your feelings and reactions as 2010 is just 1-2 days away from now.
  • Give an appropriate title to this post.
  • Share why you choose this picture to represent your feelings and reactions.
  • Cite your image if you are not the owner of the photograph/image.
  • Do not post your photograph in the blog.

Part (b)

  • In another post, describe your experience in creating this blog
  • It should be at least 20 words
  • Name the title "My Experience in creating this blog"

Part (c)

  • Submit the URLs of this blog to COMMENTS.
  • Remember to sign off with your name.

Activity 2: Expressing your experience beyond Text

With technology, expression of thoughts (e.g. Reflection) is no longer limited to text. Multimedia elements stretches the mode of expression beyond a single dimension. Let's explore!

Objective of Activity
  • Create an image/video clip with Photo Booth
  • Email an image/videoclip (with text) to blog

The Task

  • What is your expectations in 2010?
  • Create a video clip with Photo Booth. The video clip is to be uploaded to the blog.
  • Email the clip to the blog to sst.common.pdstaff2009@blogger.com
  • Your post will be posted in this blog.

The Task (Part 2) - ON YOUR OWN

1. Using Google Maps, create a map on ONE of the following:

  • (a) Some places that you been to, in Singapore, during this school vacation; or
  • (b) Some places that you been to overseas

2. Your personalised map should have the following:

  • At least 3 landmarks/places marked on the map.
  • For each landmark/place, there should be at least one image and a brief description.

3. Generate the code of the map and embed it the same post (in your personal blog) created in the previous activity. Provide your post with a name and briefly share what you did in the place(s) you visited.

The Task (Part 3) - TEAM WORK

1. As a group

  • Identify the location of the places shown HERE
  • Mark out these locations in a GoogleMap
  • Tag the images to the various locations. You may have more than one image for each location.
  • Briefly describe the daily activities that could happen in those locations.
  • Embed the final map in a post and submit it to this blog*
  • The post should also include the names of the team members.
*The leader of the group will be invited as a co-author of this blog.
You will post your work in this blog.
